Best of the Week – Secret Invasion and Indiana Jones

Secret Invasion #8 came out this week, bringing to an end Marvel’s big event of the year. While I do think that it could have been done in 5 or 6 issues, a tip of the hat to Brian Michael Bendis for writing a solid story that was enjoyable to read. Many of the crossover issues were also worthwhile (New Avengers, Secret Invasion Thor), but there was still some fluff, too (Secret Invasion X-Men, Secret Invasion Spider-Man).

Not only was Secret Invasion good stuff, but it’s got me really looking forward to Dark Reign, and what comes next.
Sideshow Collectibles released their first 1/6 scale Indiana Jones figure this week, Indy from Raiders of the Lost Ark. If you’ve read my recent posts, then you know I’m a huge Indy fan. So this one is coming home with me, too. Cool accessories and multiple heads are just two reasons to own this collectible figure. Heroes and Villains of the Week

Welcome to the first edition of a little column that I like to call “Heroes and Villains of the Week.” In this (hopefully) weekly column, I’ll be giving a thumbs up or a thumbs down to items from the world of popular culture. Since “thumbs up and thumbs down” are copyrighted, and since I was looking for something that would work well with Alter Ego Comics, I’ve settled on heroes and villains. So, here we go…

Hero: Sideshow Collectibles, for their wicked cool Toht 12 inch action figure.

Villain: Master Replicas, for delaying most of their products, (including the Halo Energy Sword), until 2009.

Hero: Kotobukiya, for releasing their Incredible Hulk Movie Fine Art Statues ahead of schedule.

Villain: DC Comics, for the twisted mess that was Batman: RIP.

Villain: Diamond Select Toys, for going with a repaint, (Pilot Episode Sulu), instead of a new figure in their Star Trek TOS line.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favorite movie ever. So when Sideshow Collectibles announced that they had the license to produce 12 inch and Premium Format Figures from the Indy movies, I knew we were in for some cool stuff. The Indiana Jones Premium Format Figure has just been added to my collection, and now I can’t wait for the just-announced Toht 12 inch figure.

That melting face head is freakin’ awesome!
