Medicom to Release 1:6 Scale Figures from Cowboys & Aliens

We just got word that Medicom will be releasing 1:6 scale figures of Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford from the film Cowboys & Aliens around March of next year.  That may actually coincide nicely with the release of the prop replicas from Factory Entertainment.  We’ll just have to wait and see.

I love me some Carlos Pacheco artwork.  His work on Avengers Forever is fantastic, and is surely a big  reason that it’s my favorite Avengers story.

Pacheco’s next gig is providing the art for the relaunch of Uncanny X-Men this November, and we’ve got a first look at his covers to issue #1 AND issue #2.

Sideshow Collectibles Kicks Off Line of DC Statues with The Joker Premium Format Figure

Sometimes dreams do come true.

For over 10 years, DC Comics has produced statues, action figures and busts through their own company, DC Direct.  They’ve made some really cool stuff, but lately, they haven’t really been able to compete with the “wow-factor” of a company like Sideshow Collectibles.  So when Sideshow recently announced that they would be producing collectibles based on DC Comics characters, I was one of the many people cheering.

joker premium format figure

The first DC Comics collectible from Sideshow is The Joker Premium Format Figure.  What is a Premium Format Figure, you ask? Generally, it’s a highly detailed statue standing approximately 24 inches tall (1:4 scale) and featuring mixed media (cloth, polystone, metal).  In layman’s terms, it’s a very cool museum piece…as in “the quality is so high that it could be in a museum). Each piece is hand-painted and individually numbered.

joker statue

The Joker Premium Format Figure looks simply outstanding.  I haven’t had a chance to see it first hand yet, but I’ve spoken with many people who have seen it and they can’t stop raving about it. If you’re a Batman fan, this looks to be the definitive comic book version of the Joker. Sideshow hasn’t announced an edition size yet, but this is a limited edition Batman collectible. And if past sales have any bearing, the Joker Premium Format Figure is likely to increase in value on the secondary market in the years to come.

Whether you’re a fan of the Joker, Batman or high quality DC Comics collectibles. you can’t go wrong adding this Premium Format DC Statue to your collection.

James Bond Gadgets Coming Soon to Alter Ego Comics

Fans of James Bond rejoice! A variety of James Bond prop replicas are coming your way soon from some of the best 007 movies.

One of the James Bond gadgets that I’m personally looking forward to is the James Bond Goldeneye Prop Replica from Pierce Brosnan’s first outing as 007.

Goldeneye was the 17th James Bond film and was the first film in 6 years, due to a legal dispute. It’s notable for a few reasons: as previously mentioned, it was Pierce Brosnan’s first movie as Bond, and both the public and critics praised his performance.

Second, it was the first time that the role of M was played by a woman. Oscar winner Judi Dench took on the role with flair and went on to play M in all 007 movies since Goldeneye.

Finally, it was the first Bond movie to be released after the fall of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, but much of the story takes place in  Russia and many of the villains are Russian.

The Goldeneye Prop Replica is made from the original movie props and features a very cool light up feature, (requires 2 AAA batteries-not included).  It also includes a display stand, acrylic cover, certificate of authenticity, detailed prop story booklet and numbered plaque.

This fully licensed James Bond collectible is limited to just 500 pieces in the world and it is expected to ship during the 1st quarter of 2012.

Due to the extremely limited nature of the James Bond Goldeneye Prop Replica, you are encouraged to place your order ASAP.

Five Things I Liked About Justice League #1

justice league 1 jim lee

The DC New 52 is upon us with the release of Justice League #1 today, so I’ve put together a short list of what I liked about this new beginning to the DC Universe:

#1. Jim Lee’s drawing a monthly comic book again.
Lee has a tremendous following and his art is very “mainstream” which will help get copies into more readers hands.

#2. Green Lantern’s kinda cocky.
It feels like Geoff Johns is injecting a little of Ryan Reynolds into the new Hal Jordan.  At first, I wasn’t crazy about it because it was different and we fear change, but the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense, and it works here.

#3. We get to see Vic Stone become Cyborg.
Great for new and old readers alike. We get to witness the birth of Cyborg.

#4. Batman and Green Lantern Meet Superman for the First Time.
And it doesn’t go the way that you think it’s going to.

#5. Justice League #1 is Appropriate for Kids
Kids 11 and up, that is. I have no problem giving my 10 and 12 year old boys a copy of Justice League #1 to read, and I’m hoping it stays that way. Many of the “mainstream” comics today are hard PG-13 with excessive foul language (even if it’s #*!-ed out), sexual imagery and excessive violence, making a large portion of the Big Two’s output inappropriate for kids. The future of this industry depends upon getting more kids reading comics, and DC has taken a great first step towards that goal.  I sincerely hope that DC’s “Young Justice” line is equally appropriate.

So there you have it. If you’re in Northwestern Ohio, visit Alter Ego Comics and pick up Justice League #1 today and choose from the rest of the New 52 throughout September.
