December Previews Catalog Review

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

I took some time last weekend to go through the December Previews catalog and a number of things jumped out at me:

Marvel Comics

Agents of Atlas #1 – Really?  Wasn’t there an Agents mini series like a year and a half ago that sold next to nothing?

Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk #1 and #2 (new printings) – Oh my lord!

Astonishing Tales #1 – I’m all for a good anthology series, and this might be it.

Fantastic Four #564 – “a very special Christmas issue”…shipping in January.

Models, Inc. #1 – WTF!!!!

Wolverine Omnibus Vol. 1 – Even though I own nearly everything in this 944 page behemoth, I might just buy it to have a nice, giant hardcover collection of everything.

Toys/Statues

Hellboy II BPRD Ring – Nifty!

Captain America Fine Art Statue – featuring the new costume, (and new Cap).
I’ll be back next month with a review of the January 2009 Previews.

Diamond Select Toys Making Captain Kirk’s Chair

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

captain kirk command chairI had the opportunity to visit the headquarter of Diamond Select Toys in Baltimore, MD about two years ago, and in the corner of one of their offices sat a mock up a Captain James T. Kirk’s command chair from Star Trek the Original Series (TOS).  Being a life-long Star Trek fan, I eagerly asked what the timetable was on this must have piece and was told that they were negotiating with manufacturers.

Lo and behold, today I found out that Diamond Select Toys attened the annual Star Trek convention in Las Vegas last week and had a prototype of the Captain’s Chair on display and a tentative release date of 2009.  The price tag is expected to be $1000+, so it won’t be for everyone, but with working lights and sounds, it will be mine!

Batman Needs a Throat Lozenge

Friday, July 25th, 2008

My only nitpick with the Christian Bale Batman movies has been Batman’s voice. It’s very gravelly and, in The Dark Knight, kinda nasally.

Looks like I’m not the only one to think this:

Dark Knight Sets Box Office Records

Monday, July 21st, 2008

batman dark knight

Warner Bros. tells the AP The Dark Knight will gross an estimated $155.34m in domestic box office receipts this weekend, a new record figure that will best Spider-Man 3’s then record take of $151.1m last year. While this means The Dark Knight likely didn’t beat Spider-Man 3’s other record, best Saturday gross ever at $51.3m, it does mean its only a matter of time before Dark Knight claims the 2008 box office crown and the question will be how high will its totals go and how ‘front-loaded’ its grosses will be?
